Introduction

The BHIVA Autumn Conference for 2010 will, once again, be held at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre. Located in the heart of London, the centre provides all the facilities required for our delegates. I would like to thank Ed Wilkins (Chair of the Conference subcommittee), Anton Pozniak (Conference Local Host) and all the members of the Conferences subcommittee for their efforts in preparing an excellent programme for this conference.

This year our Autumn Conference will be preceded by the Third Annual BHIVA Conference for the Management of HIV / Hepatitis Co-infection. This will be held at One Great George Street Conference Centre immediately adjacent to the QEII Conference Centre. All delegates are welcome to attend, though places are limited to 100. Please read the registration form carefully to ensure you register for all the sessions you wish to attend, particularly taking note that it is necessary to register to attend the HIV/Hepatitis Conference, the Interactive Lunchtime Workshops, the CHIVA Parallel Sessions and the Drinks Reception on Thursday evening. Early registration is recommended as places at the Hepatitis Conference and the Lunchtime Workshops are limited and will be allocated, in principle, on a first-come, first-served basis.

The conference programme is now almost finalised and the BHIVA Plenary Lectures cover a wide range of topics relevant to HIV, with a focus on reducing transmission of HIV, the role of the GP in HIV care and practical lectures on preventing TB and anal cancer in those living with HIV. The BHIVA Foundation Lecture will be delivered by Professor Jens Lundgren from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark with a lecture entitled ‘HIV treatment and traditional risk factors: where is the equipoise?’ The BHIVA National Clinical Audit results will also be reviewed, and in addition, there will be an interactive BHIVA Guidelines Session focusing on getting your feedback and promoting discussion on some of the Association’s latest guidelines. We are particularly delighted to welcome several eminent speakers to London. Our international speakers include Dr Yves Benhamou, Dr Jacqueline Capeau, Professor Myron Cohen, Dr Ross Cranston, Dr Stephane De Wit, Professor Jens Lundgren and Dr José Tomas Ramos Amador.

The BHIVA Annual General Meeting will be held just before lunch on Friday 8th October. I would encourage all members to attend this meeting as it provides a forum to present any points they might have to the BHIVA Officers and members of the Executive Committee.

Accommodation has been arranged with a range of local hotels, all within a short distance of the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre. If you require accommodation please contact Reservation Highway, who provide a free hotel reservation service.

As Chair, I very much look forward to welcoming you to our conference in October.
