BHIVA World AIDS Day 2024 - seeking regional host

BHIVA is inviting applications from regional groups to host its national World AIDS Day event.

BHIVA supports a World AIDS Day event each year – traditionally this has been held in London and has sometimes coincided with the Autumn BHIVA meeting. However, we recognise that this may limit participation from those who are not based in London. We are therefore delighted to offer non-London centres the opportunity to host the 2024 BHIVA World AIDS Day event.

We will support a single event and applications will be judged by a panel against an agreed set of criteria. BHIVA will provide the following support to the successful application:

  • Up to £5000 to cover any costs of running the event (e.g. room hire, IT, AV support, catering costs, speaker travel)

  • Support to source speakers if required

  • Promotion of the event:

    • BHIVA social media networks

    • BHIVA website prior to, during and for the year following the event

    • Emails to membership

    • BHIVA Members Matters

    • Comms support to raise the profile of the event.

BHIVA World AIDS Day 2024

Any BHIVA member, HIV centre or coalition of centres, can apply for funding. There are no prerequisite specifications for the format of the event, so applicants would have freedom to design the meeting as they wish. We would, however, anticipate that a successful application would include collaboration between local HIV services and the community/ voluntary sector. The event should be open to all BHIVA members, and provision to attend at least part of the event virtually is likely to be considered more favourably.

Important – As the BHIVA Autumn conference will be held on Friday 29 November 2024, any event that is supported should not be scheduled for this day as this may discourage potential attendees at the conference.

If you would like to host the BHIVA 2024 World AIDS Day event, please apply by emailing a supporting statement to [email protected] indicating the following:

  • Event date, timings, venue, format (online/hybrid), organising group, organising contact

  • Description of event – to include projected attendance numbers and audience type

  • Proposed programme/ speakers

  • Statement of how the funding would be used/ why your group would benefit from the funding

  • Will you need any additional support from BHIVA in addition to comms and promotion (for example speaker sourcing)?
