BHIVA awards a number of conference scholarships to help researchers, community representatives and other delegates attend the BHIVA annual autumn and spring conferences.
Overview of Conference Scholarships

BHIVA Science Scholarships
BHIVA Science Scholarships are awarded to researchers studying for a PhD or MD and who have an abstract accepted for presentation at the annual BHIVA conference in the spring. Up to 10 scholarships are awarded and cover the cost of conference registration fees, and a contribution towards travel expenses and accommodation costs.
BHIVA Community Registrations and Scholarships
BHIVA Community Scholarships are awarded to 10 UK-based community registrants to attend the annual BHIVA conference in the spring. The scholarships cover the cost of conference registration fees and a contribution towards expenses and accommodation costs. In addition, BHIVA also supports the registration fees for approximately 30 community representatives to attend both the spring and autumn conference.
BHIVA / AbbVie / SSAT (BASS) Exchange Scholarships
AbbVie, in collaboration with the British HIV Association (BHIVA) and the St Stephen's AIDS Trust (SSAT), have set up an exchange scholarship for practising HIV doctors, under 35 years of age and from developing and transition countries, to travel to the UK for training purposes. The objective is to increase their understanding of the treatment and management of HIV and to disseminate this information and experience when they return to their country of origin. Successful overseas candidates will be invited to participate in a training programme in the UK, which will run for approximately three weeks and will include a placement at a UK centre, as well as attendance at the 19th Annual Conference of the British HIV Association in Manchester, UK on 16–19 April 2013. In exchange, a scholar from the UK (SpR or StR grade) will travel to the home country of a winning overseas applicant in order to take part in a placement at an HIV centre or hospital. All applications must be authorised by the applicant’s clinical director, head of service or employer.

MSD International Travel Bursaries in collaboration with BHIVA
We are pleased to announce the launch of the 2013 travel bursary schemes for the 20th CROI conference to be held in Atlanta, USA, and the 14th EACS conference to be held in Brussels, Belgium. Scholarships have been provided to assist UK-based consultants and non-consultant healthcare professionals (including doctors, nurses, pharmacist and non-clinical researchers) a minimum of five places will be awarded to newly-appointed consultants (within first 5 years of appointment) and non-consultant healthcare professionals (within seven years of current appointment) in the field of HIV medicine. All applicants must be members of the British HIV Association (BHIVA).

BMS Specialist Registrar Exchange Scholarships in collaboration with BHIVA and SAHIVCS
Bristol-Myers Squibb in collaboration with the British HIV Association (BHIVA) and the South African HIV Clinicians Society (SAHIVCS) have set up an exchange scholarship for UK-based Specialist Registrars (SpRs), Specialty Registrars (StRs) and Specialist Pharmacists who are working in the field of HIV medicine and who are also BHIVA members. The exchange scholarship will enable winning applicants to travel to Botswana to take part in a placement at an HIV unit for up to 2 weeks. In exchange, a scholar from Botswana will travel to the UK to take part in a placement at an HIV centre or hospital. The scholarship will also cover their attendance at the British HIV Association Autumn Conference in London, UK.
