BHIVA is extremely sorry to bring you the very sad news of Don Jeffries’ sudden death on Wednesday 7 December 2011.

Don worked with BHIVA almost from the beginning of the Association. He was a Trustee member of BHIVA and following that, joined the BHIVA External Scrutineers, offering his wise counsel to the Chair of the Association and the BHIVA Executive Committee; from 2006 he was the Chair of ACCEA/SACDA Awards Nominating Panel and the BHIVA Research Awards Judging Panel.

BHIVA has heard from many people who have shared their fond memories of Don as a wonderfully kind and considerate colleague and a man with a warm sense of humour. Everyone has said that it was an absolute pleasure to have known Don and to have worked with him. He was always approachable and had great leadership qualities. He acted as a supportive mentor to junior colleagues and will be greatly missed not just in the field of HIV medicine but also in the field of virology and infectious diseases.

He will be warmly remembered and missed by everyone who came across him in all walks of life.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his close family and friends.

A Service of Thanksgiving will take place on Thursday 22 December at 2pm in St Mary’s Church, Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire HP27 9AN.
