BHIVA Twitter Campaign Competition 2017

Monday 2 October 2017

The BHIVA External Relations Subcommittee invites you to submit an entry to find the winning Educational Twitter Campaign to be run by BHIVA. The winning entry will receive a monetary prize and certificate to be presented at the Awards ceremony at the BHIVA Autumn Conference 2017.

As you may know, BHIVA ran a successful twitter campaign in March 2017 to celebrate International Women’s Day and highlight important issues for women living with HIV in the UK. This involved:

  • Creating a hashtag for this campaign: #BHIVAwomen.

  • Advertising and alerting other organisations and individuals in the days before.

  • On the day, hourly tweets were sent 0900–2100. They covered issues such as breastfeeding, pregnancy, contraception, menopause, the paucity of women in research studies, living well with HIV, gender-based violence and mental health. Each tweet linked to relevant scientific papers, articles and blogs.

  • Sample tweets included:

  • #HIV transmission to babies in UK at record low at 0.27%. Find out more about HIV & pregnancy: ow.ly/TmhB309GwnB #BHIVAwomen #IWD2017 pic.twitter.com/BwUuFKRI8o

  • How does living with HIV impact on mental health for women? ow.ly/pB6E309GD6L #BHIVAwomen #IWD2017

  • We also included some other established hashtags such as the International Women’s Day hashtag #IWD2017 to widen our audience.

  • The tweets were then storified and this was retweeted in the days following.

We would like YOU to come up with a similar campaign of relevance to the care and well-being of people living with HIV in the UK. Tell us about why you are passionate about this issue and how you will plan to raise awareness of it through a Twitter campaign. You may wish to follow a similar method to that used in the IWD campaign or you may do something different. The proposal should contain details of any hashtags used, planned tweets (and attached publications) and a schedule of when they will go out. The focus must be educational.

The winning campaign will be announced at the awards ceremony at the BHIVA Autumn Conference 2017 and will be carried out by the BHIVA Twitter team on or around World AIDS Day 2017. The deadline for proposals is 1730 on Friday 27 October 2017. Please reply to [email protected].

We look forward to seeing your submissions!

With kind regards
