The BHIVA Standards of Care for People Living with HIV were published in 2018. They are great - but they are long and hard to understand in some places. So a group of people living with HIV produced the "Your Guide to…" the 2018 Standards. It aims to tell you about what you should expect when getting your HIV care.
Our non-technical versions of BHIVA guidelines are intended to support, rather than replace, consultation with a healthcare professional. Talk to your doctor or another member of your healthcare team for advice tailored to your situation.
To acknowledge the importance of community-led endeavours, BHIVA created a community award in 2024 to support defined projects with the goal of supporting people living with HIV in the UK.
Language matters. People living with or at risk of HIV experience stigma & discrimination and the wrong language perpetuates this. Person-first language simply puts people before their condition, recognising that people are people, and not defined by their condition.
This information is still available from the HIVPA website but will be transferred to the BHIVA website under the HIV Pharmacy SIG in due course.
